If you haven't heard of Mabel Simpson and her hand-made and one of a kind accessories, then you are missing out. We asked her a few questions about her Msimps brand and here's what she had to say:

How long have you been making handbags?

In August 2010, I resigned from my office job to set up mSimps, a fashion accessory company, using capital of GHS200 (USD100). mSimps manufactures hand-made accessories such as handbags, dress and hair brooches, laptop bags, shoes and other accessories with African print.

Why did you become a designer?

The goal of mSimps is to produce quality hand-made, Made-In-Ghana products with African prints.

What do you love most about being a designer?

We aim to make our customers proud to wear African outfits, which are a work of creativity, innovation and product excellence.

How has you journey been since you launched mSimps?

I was one of the 10 finalists in the Joy Fm My Business 2011. In 2012, I partook in the Enablis/UT BANK Business Launchpad competition in which I was 2nd runner up. The participation allowed me to receive support from Enablis Ghana through training programs and recommendations which eventually took me to Nigeria to introduce my products to the larger market there. In 2013, mSimps won 2 awards; Best Handbag and Purse product of the Year at the Ghana Made Product Awards and Accessory Brand of the Year Award at the Glitz Africa Fashion Week.

How would you explain your international success?

Since setting up mSimps, our products have been introduced to clients on local and international platforms through our social media platforms, website and through recommendations. mSimps has largely garnered support via local and international media publicity. At our height, we benefited from a feature on the BBC. This opportunity enhanced our global profile, helped us build a larger social media presence and attracted customers from the diaspora.

Who's your favorite designer(s)?

I admire any designer who exhibits creativity in their works.

What's your favourite food?

I enjoy Ga kenkey with fried fish, shrimps and squid with fresh pepper.

The award-winning mSimps handbags have been very popular on Kuwala. Shop her fabulous handbags and watch the clip below of Mabel and other Ghanaian designers.
