The friendly faces, rich natural foods and fantastic weather are some of the things that make Malawi the warm heart of Africa. One of the great things about this hidden treasure is Lake Malawi. There is just something special about the serene clear blue waters, white sandy beaches and tasty chambo (local fish).
The story is not complete without some discussion on the fashion. Whilst African fabrics are normally worn as part of a structured outfit in the West, in Malawi the fabric in it's 'raw' form is the most common item of clothing for women. This fabric know as the chitenge is a versatile piece of rectangular fabric normally worn around the waist or chest to cover clothing underneath. Amongst other things, the most interesting use of the chitenge, is that it can be used as a sling for carrying babies on the back.
Kuwala's love for Malawi runs deep and we are happy to have partnered with Mayamiko, a Malawian co-operative of talented women.
Here are some pics from the warm heart :-)
