Lupita Nyong'o has been a fashion icon from the moment she arrived in Hollywood. From her time on the MTV show Shuga to her breakthrough role in 12 Years a Slave, it has been wonderful watching her acting career progress. However, it has been an even greater pleasure witnessing Lupita's style on the red carpet and media appearances. As she makes her rounds promoting her latest film, Queen of Katwe, we couldn't help but notice her beautiful outfits and her majestic headwraps.
During her appearance on the Ellen Show, Lupita admits that she has modelled before and then goes on to show off her 'sexy face.' We love this Spaghetti trap top and Palazzo pants by Cameroonian brand Kibonen NY on Lupita.
On Good Morning America and Sway in the Morning, Lupita rocked Kibonen NY's Diprene Blue Black dress accompanied by a vibrant yellow headwrap. At these appearances, Lupita spoke more about the inspirational story behind Queen of Katwe and more!
During her appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, not only did Lupita show off her contagious laugh, she explained her headwrap to Jimmy "It's inspired by Queen of Katwe so I call it my crown."
Since her memorable cinderella moment at the 2013 Academy Awards, Lupita continues to slay on the red carpet. Whether she's rocking the Nigerian gele at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) or a matching lavender fabric with her Elie Saab dress, every outfit leaves a lasting impression of nobility.
Lupita described her styling process to People Magazine:
“We use the fabric either from the designer that I am wearing or African fabrics that we sourced in east Africa and in the African fabric stores here in New York...And it’s been lots of fun to work to create these crowns for my head and celebrate the release of this film.”
At the Queen of Katwe premiere in Uganda, where the film is set, Lupita wore a dazzling jumpsuit by DPiper Twins along with a multi-fabric crown. We also can't get enough of her co-star's, David Oyelowo, classic look.
In all the looks we've explored, one thing that has stayed consistent is her striking crowns, which were wrapped by the award-winning hairstylist Vernon François along with her stylist Micaela Erlanger.
